Overview

Optus Loop is Optus's cloud phone system for small and medium businesses. Optus's support page explains what is happening to it: "Optus Loop is being updated to a more advanced platform, Optus Loop with RingCentral which will provide your business with greater functionality and more advanced features."

Optus says your numbers, bill and contract stay the same, and that most upgrades need no action from you. It also says the upgrade date range is set out in the communication Optus sent you. So this is not a shutdown, and nobody should tell you otherwise. It is a platform change, on Optus's timetable.

According to Optus's own upgrade FAQ, here is what does and does not come across:

On the move to Optus Loop with RingCentral What Optus says
Phone numbers Will not change
Bill and contract Unchanged
User permissions, phone configurations, speed dials Remain after the upgrade
Dubber call recordings Retained
Historical and saved messages, call logs, personal contacts Not carried over, and lost at upgrade
Passwords Do not transfer; your email address becomes your login
Handsets Some customers may need to update them

Optus's Loop support hub also lists several Yealink handset models, including the T41S, T42S, T46S, T48S, W60P and W69P, with a manufacturer end-of-life date of 31 March 2027, and others already end of life.

If you are about to learn a new app, a new admin portal and possibly new handsets anyway, it is the natural moment to ask whether you would rather make that change with a provider you choose. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier (ACMA Carrier Licence #388) and is not affiliated with Optus or RingCentral.

Key Benefits

  • A Change You Choose, Not One You Are Given

Optus sets the date range for your upgrade. Moving to Summit means you choose the provider, the platform and the cutover day, planned around your business rather than a notification.

  • Free Local Number Porting

Move your Optus Loop service to a Summit voice plan and we port the local numbers attached to your Optus service with no porting fee. A one-time offer, available until 30 August 2027 unless extended.

  • A Dedicated Migration Team

Your move is run by Summit's dedicated migration team, not a general sales queue. They map your current call flows, users and handsets before anything changes, and stay with you through cutover.

  • Your Contacts and Call Flows, Rebuilt Properly

Optus says saved messages, call logs and personal contacts will not move to the new platform. Our team rebuilds your auto attendant, ring groups and routing on Summit, and helps you export what matters before you leave.

  • Phone System and Network From One Carrier

Summit runs the phone system and the voice network it rides on. Add a Summit internet connection and we prioritise voice traffic end to end, with one support number for both.

  • nbn + 4G Backup + Phones in One Bundle

Pair your new phone system with business nbn and automatic 4G backup, so calls keep working when the nbn drops, all on one Summit invoice.

  • Every Feature Included

Auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, mobile and desktop apps: all in one per-user price, with no feature tiers.

  • Handsets Ready on Arrival

Need new handsets? We preconfigure and ship them with your extensions and call flows already set up, so they work as soon as they are plugged in.

How It Works

  1. 1 Submit your enquiry

Fill in the form above or call 1300 049 749. Tell us how many staff take calls, which numbers you want to keep and when your Optus contract ends.

  2. 2 Our dedicated migration team calls you

A specialist discusses your requirements: your current call flows, users, handsets and contract position, so the move lands at the right time.

  3. 3 Choose physical handsets or go softphone only

Select how many desk or cordless handsets you need, or go softphone only and take calls on the Summit app on your mobile and computer.

  4. 4 We preconfigure and ship your new hardware

Your handsets, and your nbn and 4G backup hardware if you bundle internet, arrive preconfigured with your extensions, auto attendant and ring groups set up.

  5. 5 Migration support from our dedicated team

We port your local numbers on the day you choose, test inbound and outbound calls with you, and then tell you what to cancel with Optus and when. Do not cancel first: only active numbers can be ported.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Optus Loop shutting down?
Not according to Optus. Optus describes it as an upgrade: Optus Loop customers are being moved to a new platform, Optus Loop with RingCentral. Optus says your numbers, bill and contract stay the same.
When will my Optus Loop service be upgraded?
Optus says the communication it sent you sets out your service upgrade date range, and that upgrades typically run overnight from 8pm local time. Check your Optus notice for your dates.
What do I lose in the move to Optus Loop with RingCentral?
Optus says historical and saved messages, call logs and personal contacts will not be carried over and will be lost at the time of upgrade, and that passwords will not transfer. It recommends saving key contacts and voicemails beforehand. Optus says user permissions, phone configurations, speed dials and Dubber recordings are retained.
Will I need new handsets?
Optus says some customers may need to update their handsets and will be told if so. Its Loop support hub lists several Yealink models with a manufacturer end-of-life date of 31 March 2027. If you are replacing handsets either way, Summit can supply new ones preconfigured.
Can I keep my phone numbers if I leave Optus?
Yes. Local numbers can be ported to Summit, and under this offer we port the local numbers attached to your Optus service free of charge. Keep your Optus service active until the port completes: only active numbers can be ported.
What does the free number porting offer include?
Free porting of the local numbers (geographic numbers such as 02, 03, 07 and 08 numbers) attached to your Optus service when you move to a Summit voice plan. It is a one-time offer and expires on 30 August 2027 unless extended. 1300, 1800 and 13 numbers are not included.
Will I pay Optus to leave early?
That depends on your contract. Optus Loop has been sold on fixed terms with cancellation fees, plus any remaining handset or installation charges. Check your contract end date and any fees with Optus, and we will plan the cutover around them.
How long does porting take?
The ACMA says ports are generally completed within 8 to 15 days for individual local numbers, and up to 30 days for more complex ports involving more than one local number. Your migration specialist will give you a timeline.
Is Summit part of Optus or RingCentral?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier (ACMA Carrier Licence #388) and is not affiliated with Optus or RingCentral.
