Overview

A 1300 or 1800 number gives your business a single, memorable point of contact that works from anywhere in Australia. Callers from Sydney, Perth, Brisbane or regional Queensland all dial the same number and reach your business, whether you are a one-person operation or a national franchise.

1300 numbers charge callers a local rate, making it affordable for customers to call you from anywhere in the country. 1800 numbers are completely free for the caller, which is ideal for support lines, sales enquiries and any situation where you want to remove every barrier to a customer picking up the phone.

Behind that one number, Summit gives you intelligent call routing that directs calls based on time of day, caller location, staff availability and custom rules. Paired with detailed call analytics, your inbound number becomes more than a phone number. It becomes a tool for understanding how your customers reach you and how your team responds.

Key Benefits

  • National Presence, Local Feel

A 1300 or 1800 number tells customers you are a serious, Australia-wide business, even if you operate from a single office. Callers from any state or territory dial the same number without worrying about long-distance charges. It is the simplest way to project a professional, national image.

  • Never Miss a Call

Intelligent routing ensures calls always reach someone. Configure overflow routing so if your reception team is busy, calls ring through to another team member, a mobile or a voicemail box. Time-based routing sends after-hours calls to the right destination automatically. Every call is accounted for.

  • Smart Call Routing

Route calls based on the rules that matter to your business. Time-of-day routing handles business hours, after hours, weekends and public holidays. Location-based routing sends callers to their nearest branch. Overflow routing kicks in when lines are busy. You define the rules; Summit makes them work.

  • Detailed Call Analytics

See exactly how many calls you receive, when they come in, how long they last, and where they originate. Use this data to staff your phones more effectively, measure marketing campaign response, and identify patterns in customer behaviour. Knowledge that was once invisible becomes actionable.

  • Marketing Trackability

Assign different 1300 or 1800 numbers to different marketing campaigns: one for your website, one for print advertising, one for a specific promotion. Track which channels generate the most calls and allocate your marketing spend based on real data rather than guesswork.

  • Memorable and Portable

1300 and 1800 numbers are not tied to a physical location or a specific phone line. If you move offices, add locations or change your underlying phone system, your number stays the same. Choose a phoneword or a memorable number sequence to make it easy for customers to remember.

  • Low Cost for Callers

1300 numbers cost callers only a local call rate from any Australian landline. 1800 numbers are completely free for the caller. Either way, you remove the cost barrier that might otherwise stop a customer from calling.

  • Works with Any Phone System

Your 1300 or 1800 number routes to whatever answering point you choose: a landline, a mobile, a PBX extension, our cloud phone system system or a call centre. Change the destination at any time without changing the number.

How It Works

  1. 1 Choose your number type

Select a 1300 (local rate) or 1800 (free call) number. If you want a 13 number (shorter, six-digit format for high-volume businesses), we can arrange that too. Choose a new number from our available inventory, or port an existing number to Summit.

  2. 2 Set up your routing rules

Tell us how you want calls handled. Summit configures time-based routing, location-based routing, overflow rules, and any custom logic your business requires.

  3. 3 Go live

Your number is activated on Summit's network and calls begin routing according to your rules. There is no hardware to install and no changes needed to your existing phones or PBX.

  4. 4 Monitor and optimise

Use call analytics to track performance. Adjust routing rules at any time as your business needs change: add new destinations, modify time schedules, or redirect calls for a specific campaign.

Use Cases

  • The National Brand with Local Offices

A franchise group with branches in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide uses a single 1300 number. Location-based routing sends each caller to their nearest office automatically. After hours, all calls route to a central voicemail box, and the analytics dashboard shows call volume by region to help the national team allocate resources.

  • The Marketing-Driven Business

An e-commerce company runs simultaneous campaigns across Google Ads, radio and direct mail. Each campaign has its own 1300 number, and the analytics show exactly how many calls each channel generates. The marketing team reallocates budget from underperforming channels to the ones that are actually ringing the phone.

    Marketing & Media
  • The Small Business with Big Aspirations

A two-person consultancy wants to look and feel like a larger firm. A 1300 number with a professional IVR greeting, time-based routing to business hours and after-hours voicemail, and overflow to mobile gives them the presence of a much bigger operation. Clients never know, or need to know, that there are only two desks.

    Lawyers & Accountants
  • The Support and Service Team

A software company provides a 1800 free-call support line to remove any friction from customers reporting issues. Calls route to the support desk during business hours and to an on-call mobile after hours. Missed call reporting ensures every unanswered call is followed up the next business day.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 1300, 1800 and 13 numbers?
1300 numbers charge the caller a local call rate from an Australian landline. 1800 numbers are free for the caller. Your business pays for the call. 13 numbers are a shorter, six-digit format of 1300 numbers, typically used by larger businesses that want a highly memorable number.
Can I choose a specific number or phoneword?
Yes. Summit has an inventory of available 1300 and 1800 numbers, and we can help you find a memorable sequence or phoneword. Premium number selections may attract an additional charge from the number registry.
Can I port my existing 1300 or 1800 number to Summit?
Yes. We handle the porting process and coordinate with your current provider to ensure there is no interruption to your incoming calls.
Where can calls be routed to?
Calls can be routed to any Australian landline, mobile phone, PBX extension or VoIP system. You can set up multiple destinations with time-based, location-based, overflow and failover rules.
How quickly can I get a number set up?
A new 1300 or 1800 number can typically be activated within one to two business days. If you are porting an existing number, the process takes approximately 5 to 10 business days.
Can I see call statistics?
Yes. Summit provides a call analytics dashboard with data on call volumes, durations, caller origins, peak times and missed calls. Reports can be viewed online and exported for further analysis.
What does it cost the caller?
