Overview

Your phone system shapes how customers experience your business. Missed calls, crackly audio and clunky transfers tell callers you are not ready for their business. Hosted PBX changes that, giving you a full-featured, enterprise-grade phone system hosted in the cloud, managed through a simple web portal, and priced for small and mid-sized businesses.

Hosted PBX replaces your old on-premises phone system with a cloud-hosted PBX that works on desk phones, DECT cordless handsets, softphone apps and conference phones. There is no server room hardware to maintain, no expensive upgrades every few years, and no limit on how many extensions you can add as your team grows. Every feature (IVR auto attendant, ring groups, voicemail to email, hot desking, time-based routing) is included in one simple per-user price.

What truly sets our cloud phone system apart is what happens when you pair it with a Summit internet connection. Because Summit owns and operates its own network (ACMA Carrier Licence #388), we can prioritise your voice traffic with end-to-end Quality of Service. That means your calls stay clear and uninterrupted even when your team is downloading large files, streaming video or backing up to the cloud. This is something you simply cannot get when your phone provider and internet provider are two different companies.

Key Benefits

  • All Features, One Price

Every user gets the full feature set: IVR, ring groups, call recording, voicemail to email, hold music, call transfer, hot desking and more. There are no tiers to navigate and no surprise charges for the feature you actually need. One price per user, everything included.

  • Crystal-Clear Call Quality with QoS

When When your phone system runs on a Summit internet connection, your voice traffic is given priority over data traffic across our own network. The result is consistently clear, professional-quality calls, not the choppy, dropping audio that plagues businesses buying phone and internet from separate providers.

  • Work from Anywhere

Hosted PBX is not tied to a desk. Your team can take calls on a desk phone in the office, a softphone app on their laptop at home, or their mobile while on the road. One system, one number, wherever your people are.

  • Scales with Your Business

Adding a new team member takes minutes, not days. There is no rewiring, no technician visit and no hardware to order (unless you want a new handset). Whether you have five people today or fifty next year, Hosted PBX grows with you.

  • Professional Image from Day One

An IVR auto attendant greets callers and routes them to the right department. Ring groups ensure someone always picks up. Time-based routing sends after-hours calls to voicemail or a mobile. Even a two-person business can sound like a company ten times its size.

  • No Hardware to Maintain

Your phone system lives in the cloud, hosted and maintained by Summit. There are no servers in your office to manage, no firmware updates to worry about, and no catastrophic hardware failures that take your phones offline. We handle the infrastructure so you can focus on your business.

  • Simple Web Management Portal

Add users, change call routing, update your IVR greeting, configure ring groups, all from a straightforward web portal. You do not need an IT degree or a technician visit to manage your phone system. Changes take effect immediately.

  • Keep Your Existing Numbers

Switching to Hosted PBX does not mean changing your phone numbers. We port your existing numbers across so your customers, suppliers and marketing materials stay exactly as they are.

How It Works

  1. 1 We design your system

Tell us how your business handles calls today (who answers, where calls should route, what happens after hours), and we configure the system to match. No generic templates; your phone system is set up for the way you actually work.

  2. 2 Choose your devices

Select from desk phones, DECT cordless handsets, a reception console for your front desk, softphone apps for remote workers, or conference phones for meeting rooms. Mix and match across your team.

  3. 3 We provision and port

Summit sets up your phone system, provisions your devices, and ports your existing phone numbers. We test everything before go-live so there is zero disruption to your business.

  4. 4 You manage it from the web portal

Once live, you have full control through the management portal. Add or remove users, update routing, pull call reports and adjust settings any time you need to.

: Queue status, wait times and agent availability on a screen the team can see.
Switchboard View
: A single view of every call in progress for reception and team leaders.
SLA Alerting

: Every call written back against the customer record, building call history without anyone typing it up.

Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace

Calendar-Aware Status
: Your availability follows your calendar, so meetings do not get interrupted.
API Access
: Programmatic call control and reporting for businesses with their own systems to connect.

: Build call handling logic visually for scenarios the standard IVR does not cover, such as account-number lookups or after-hours triage.
Failover
: A standby path so a single failure does not take your phones down.
Departments and Tenancy
: Keep separate businesses or trading names on one platform with their own numbers, greetings and reporting.

Administration

Web Management Portal
: Full system administration from any web browser

Use Cases

  • The Growing Professional Services Firm

A 15-person accounting firm has outgrown its old phone system. Partners need calls routed to their mobile when they are visiting clients. The reception desk needs to handle high call volumes during tax season. Hosted PBX gives them IVR routing, ring groups for the support team, follow-me for partners, and a reception console, all managed from a web portal without an IT team.

    Lawyers & Accountants
  • The Multi-Site Retail Business

A retail chain with four Melbourne stores needs a unified phone system. Calls to the head office number can overflow to store managers. Each store has its own direct number but they all operate on the same system. Staff can transfer calls between locations as easily as transferring to the next desk. Hosted PBX connects all four sites under one system, one management portal, and one bill.

    Retail
  • The Hybrid Workforce

A marketing agency has ten staff: five in the office, five working from home. Every team member uses the softphone app on their laptop, and office-based staff also have desk phones. Customers call one number and reach the right person regardless of where they are sitting. Hosted PBX makes the office location irrelevant to the caller experience.

    Marketing & Media
  • The Medical Practice

A GP clinic needs after-hours calls routed to an answering service, an IVR to direct patients to bookings, results or emergencies, and voicemail to email so doctors can triage messages remotely. Hosted PBX handles all of this, and when bundled with Summit internet, the QoS guarantee means telehealth consultations are never disrupted by other internet traffic in the practice.

    Dentists & GPs

Why Choose Summit for Your Phone System

  • 01

Your Calls Get Priority on Our Own Network

This is the single biggest reason to choose a hosted PBX from Summit with Summit internet. Because we own the network your data and voice travel on, we can guarantee your voice traffic is prioritised with end-to-end QoS. Other providers sell you a phone system and hope your internet connection is good enough. We make sure it is.

  • 02

One Provider, One Point of Accountability

When your phone system and internet come from different providers, problems become a blame game. The VoIP provider says it is the internet. The internet provider says it is the VoIP. With Summit, there is one number to call, one team who can see the entire picture, and one provider accountable for making it work.

  • 03

Support That Can Actually Fix It

When you call Summit, you speak to our own support team, not a chatbot and not somebody who has to pass your problem to another company. Real people who understand your business, know the technology, and can resolve issues without reading from a script.

  • 04

Priced for Small and Mid-Sized Business

The big telcos charge $40 to $50 per user per month for their cloud phone systems. Hosted PBX delivers the same enterprise-grade features at a fraction of the cost. Every feature is included in one per-user price: no add-ons, no tiers, no hidden charges.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

What internet connection do I need for a cloud phone system?
Hosted PBX works over any business-grade internet connection, but it performs best on a Summit internet connection where we can prioritise voice traffic with QoS. Each concurrent call requires approximately 100 Kbps of bandwidth. For a business with 10 people, a standard business internet plan is more than sufficient.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Yes. We port your existing phone numbers to included at no additional cost. The porting process typically takes 5 to 10 business days and we coordinate it so there is no interruption to your calls.
What happens if the internet goes down?
If you have Summit's 4G Backup service, your calls automatically fail over to the 4G connection. You can also configure follow-me rules to redirect calls to mobile phones during an outage. Your voicemail continues to operate regardless of your internet status.
Do I need to buy phones?
Not necessarily. You can use the softphone app on computers and mobile devices at no extra hardware cost. If you prefer dedicated handsets, Summit can supply and pre-configure desk phones, DECT cordless phones, reception consoles and conference phones. We can also work with compatible IP phones you already own.
How long does it take to set up?
A typical A hosted PBX deployment for a business of 5 to 20 users takes 5 to 10 business days from order to go-live, including number porting. Larger or more complex deployments may take longer, and we will give you a clear timeline during the quoting process.
Can I add or remove users myself?
Yes. The Hosted PBX web management portal lets you add new users, remove departing staff, and reconfigure extensions and routing at any time. Changes take effect immediately and there is no need to call Summit or wait for a technician.
Is call recording included?
Yes. Call recording is included in the feature set at no additional cost. You can enable it for all calls, specific extensions or on-demand, depending on your compliance and quality assurance requirements.
Can remote workers use it?
Absolutely. Remote and hybrid workers use the softphone app on their computer or mobile device. They make and receive calls on the business number, transfer calls to colleagues, and access all Hosted PBX features exactly as if they were sitting in the office.
Can staff work entirely from an app, without a desk phone?
Yes. Every user gets a browser client, a Windows desktop app and mobile apps for iOS and Android. Calls to your business number ring wherever the user is logged in, and outbound calls show your business number rather than a personal mobile. Many of our customers buy desk phones for reception and shared areas only, and run everyone else on apps.
Does Hosted PBX include video meetings?
Yes, and there is no separate per-user fee for them. Meetings run in the browser, so guests join from a link without creating an account or installing anything. Screen sharing, a shared whiteboard, document presenting and polls are all included, and each user gets a permanent personal meeting link.
Can we handle website chat and WhatsApp messages through the same system?
Yes. Website live chat, Facebook messages, WhatsApp and SMS can all be answered in the same interface, routed through queues the same way phone calls are. A chat can be escalated to a voice or video call in the browser, so a customer who has already explained their problem in text does not have to start again on the phone. Talk to us about which channels suit your business before you switch them on.
Do you support call queues and reporting for a contact centre?
Yes. Hosted PBX supports multiple queue strategies, skill-based routing, callback so customers do not have to hold, live wallboards, a switchboard view for team leaders, SLA alerting when calls wait too long, and scheduled queue reports by agent and by queue. Listen-in, whisper and barge-in are available for coaching and quality assurance.
Will Hosted PBX work with our CRM?
In most cases yes. Hosted PBX can match an incoming caller ID to the record in your business systems and open it as the call connects, log the call against that record automatically, and create a new contact for an unrecognised number. Staff can also click a number in your CRM to dial it. Tell us which platform you use on 1300 049 749 and we will confirm the integration before you commit.
Can you connect more than one office?
Yes. Multiple sites can be bridged so extension dialling, transfers and presence work across every location as a single system. Remote handsets and home workers connect securely without you having to maintain a VPN. If you need private connectivity between sites as well, that is what MPLS Private IP Networks is for.
What happens to our phones if the internet drops?
This is the main reason we recommend pairing a phone system with a backup path. Our 4G Backup service fails your connection over to the mobile network automatically, and because we prioritise voice traffic on our own network the calls keep working through the switch. You can also set the system to divert to mobiles automatically if a site goes offline entirely.
