Overview

Vertel is a privately held Australian telecommunications company that describes itself as a national carrier specialising in critical communication networks. It designs, builds and operates wireless networks for corporations, government and service providers, including managed land mobile radio networks and Layer 2 Ethernet and Layer 3 IP connectivity delivered over microwave, fibre and an MPLS core. In 2024 it sold a portfolio of tower sites in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia to Everest Infrastructure, and continues to operate its network from those sites.

Organisations review their data provider for all sorts of reasons, even when nothing is wrong. A contract is ending, an office is moving, a new site is opening, or the business wants its internet, phones and backup from one carrier that works only with businesses.

For business internet and site connectivity, Summit offers Ethernet over fibre, business nbn with a static IP included, 4G backup, and in Melbourne and regional Victoria our own fixed wireless network. Phones, including a Hosted PBX and SIP trunks, run on the same connection.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Vertel.

How Summit Helps

  • Ethernet Over Fibre for Busy Sites

Ethernet over fibre gives a head office, depot or data-heavy site a business-grade connection on Summit's network.

  • Business nbn With a Static IP Included

For smaller offices and branch sites, our business nbn plans are available nationally and include a static IP as standard. On full-fibre nbn, speeds go up to 2000/500 Mbps.

  • Fixed Wireless in Melbourne and Regional Victoria

Across 500+ suburbs, our own fixed wireless network delivers symmetric speeds from 10 Mbps up to 10 Gbps, installed in 10 business days or your first month is free. Check your coverage.

  • Automatic 4G Backup

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back once your main link returns. We also offer 4G Static IP services.

  • Our Own Network, DDoS Protection Included

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and builds, owns and operates its network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres. DDoS protection is standard.

  • Phones on the Same Connection

Move your business phones to a Hosted PBX from $10 per user per month, connect an existing system with SIP trunks, or use Microsoft Teams Calling. Voice traffic is prioritised when your internet is also Summit's.

  • One Bill for Internet, Phones and Mobile

Add business mobile SIM plans and keep internet, phones and mobile on one invoice from one carrier.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Let us know which data services you use today, such as Ethernet links between sites or internet at each office, and when your current agreement ends.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the right connection for each site, whether Ethernet over fibre, business nbn or fixed wireless, plus any backup and phones you need.

  3. 3 Schedule the install

We line up installation with your contract end date where we can, so you are not paying twice for longer than needed.

  4. 4 Go live and test

Your Summit service is installed and tested while your existing service keeps running.

  5. 5 Cancel the old service

Once you are happy everything is working, you cancel with your previous provider. If you are moving phone numbers too, keep the old service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Vertel?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Vertel.
Why switch if my Vertel service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually talk to us when a contract is ending, a site is moving or opening, or they want internet, backup and phones from a single business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract for the end date and any early termination charges, and we can time your Summit installation to line up with it.
Can Summit replace my radio network?
Summit's services are business internet, data, phones and mobile. If your organisation also relies on a managed land mobile radio network, tell us when you get in touch and we will quote the internet and data side so you can decide what makes sense.
What connection types does Summit offer?
Ethernet over fibre, business nbn with a static IP included, 4G Static IP, and our own fixed wireless network in Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Is Summit's fixed wireless available at my address?
Fixed wireless covers 500+ suburbs across Melbourne and regional Victoria only. Check your coverage to see whether your site is in range. Outside that area, we can quote business nbn or Ethernet over fibre.
Can I keep my internet running if my main link drops?
Yes. Add 4G Backup and your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, then fails back when your main link returns.
Can I move my phones to Summit too?
Yes. We offer a Hosted PBX from $10 per user per month, SIP trunks for an existing phone system starting from 2 channels, and Microsoft Teams Calling. Existing numbers can be ported to Summit. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
