Overview

Telstra is an ASX-listed Australian telco and a licensed carrier. To small businesses it sells business nbn plans, mobile plans and satellite internet, and its enterprise arm supplies networks, enterprise mobility, cloud, security and unified communications. Over the years many businesses have also run their phones on Telstra voice products such as Business SIP, T-Biz Voice, DOT (Telstra Business Internet) and Telstra Calling for Office 365.

Several of those voice products are changing. Telstra's customer terms state that Business SIP has not been sold to new customers since 30 May 2025, that Telstra Calling for Office 365 is withdrawn on and from 30 November 2026, and that T-Biz Voice on the nbn and DOT are withdrawn on and from 30 August 2027. If your phones run on one of these, see our guides to Telstra Business SIP, Telstra Calling for Office 365 and T-Biz Voice and DOT.

Even if none of that applies to you, there are good moments to review a provider: a contract coming to an end, an office move, a phone system upgrade, or simply wanting your internet, phones and mobiles from one business-only carrier that answers for all of them.

Summit has been connecting Australian businesses for 26 years. We sell business nbn with a static IP, Ethernet over fibre, fixed wireless in Melbourne and regional Victoria, a cloud phone system, SIP trunks, Microsoft Teams Calling and business mobile plans, all on one bill. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Telstra.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every customer we connect is a business, so our products, support and network are all built around how businesses work.

  • Business nbn With a Static IP Included

Business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. Where you need more, we offer Ethernet over fibre, and in Melbourne and regional Victoria, symmetric fixed wireless from 10 Mbps up to 10 Gbps.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month, with auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps all included. We can preconfigure your handsets and ship them to you ready to plug in.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Own

If your business has its own PBX, Summit SIP trunks connect it to our voice network. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

Prefer to make calls in Teams? We connect Teams to our voice network through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences: Summit does not resell them.

  • Voice Prioritised Over Your Own Connection

When your internet and phones are both with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised with quality of service, so calls are not competing with downloads and backups on the same link.

  • 4G Backup That Fails Over Automatically

Add 4G Backup and your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, then fails back when your primary service returns.

  • Mobiles, Inbound Numbers and Fax on One Bill

Add business mobile SIM plans, 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging, so internet, phones and mobiles sit on one bill with one provider.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share a recent Telstra bill or list your services: internet, phone numbers, phone system, mobiles and anything else on the line, such as EFTPOS or alarms. Let us know when your contract ends.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the right internet, phone and mobile setup for your business and price it, with a switch date lined up to your contract end.

  3. 3 Install and test

We connect your Summit internet and set up your phone system while your Telstra services keep running.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your Telstra service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says a single local number generally ports in 8 to 15 days, and ports with several numbers can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel what you no longer need

Once your numbers are live with Summit and calls are tested, we tell you which Telstra services to cancel and when.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Telstra?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Telstra.
Why switch if my Telstra service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, when a phone product they rely on is being withdrawn, or when they want internet, phones and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Telstra. Check your contract for any early termination charges. The simplest way to avoid them is to time your switch to your contract end date, and we can plan the move around it.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, in most cases your existing numbers can be ported to Summit, including local numbers and 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your Telstra service active until the port is complete, because a number that has been disconnected can no longer be ported.
How long does porting take?
The ACMA says a single local number generally ports in 8 to 15 days, and a port with several numbers can take up to 30 days. Start early, especially if you are working towards a contract end date.
My Telstra phone product is being withdrawn. What should I do?
Check your Telstra notice or account for the dates that apply to you, then plan the move before the withdrawal date so your numbers can be ported while the service is still active. Our guides cover Telstra Calling for Office 365, T-Biz Voice and DOT and Telstra Business SIP.
Can I keep using Microsoft Teams for calls?
Yes. Summit connects Microsoft Teams to our voice network through Direct Routing, so your staff keep calling from Teams. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.
Do I have to move everything at once?
No. You can start with your phones, your internet or your mobiles and move the rest later. Having internet and phones with Summit does mean your voice traffic is prioritised over the same connection.
Does Summit serve businesses outside Melbourne?
Yes. Business nbn, phones and mobiles are available to businesses across Australia. Our fixed wireless network covers Melbourne and regional Victoria only, and you can check coverage at your address.
