Overview

Star Telecom is a telecommunications provider based in Kew, Victoria, offering phone, internet, mobile and data services to businesses and households. Its business range includes phone services (PSTN, ISDN and VoIP), nbn internet, 13, 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, mobile plans, virtual PABX solutions, WAN and VPN services, hosting and PABX hardware.

Businesses tend to review their telco when a contract ends, when they move office, or when they want one provider accountable for the internet connection and the phones that run over it. Some also prefer a provider that only serves businesses.

Summit Internet is a business-only carrier that has served Australian businesses for 26 years. We provide business nbn with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre, a Hosted PBX cloud phone system, SIP trunks for phone systems you already own, 1300 and 1800 numbers and business mobile plans, all on a network we build, own and operate.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Star Telecom.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Summit business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, and up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. DDoS protection comes as standard.

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

If you use a virtual PABX today, our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month, with auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps all included. We can preconfigure handsets and ship them ready to plug in.

  • SIP trunks for the PABX you already own

If your business runs its own PABX, Summit SIP trunks connect it to our network. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as call volumes change.

  • Your 1300, 1800 and local numbers

Existing numbers can be ported to Summit, so your website, signage and stationery stay the same. We also provide 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging.

  • Fibre for sites that need more

If your office has outgrown nbn, Ethernet over fibre connects your office to Summit's network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres.

  • Calls that stay clear on a busy line

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised, so calls are not competing with uploads and video meetings.

  • Keep working if the line drops

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back when your main service returns.

  • Mobiles on the same bill

Business mobile SIM plans sit alongside your internet and phones, so there is one bill and one provider to call.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your internet services, phone lines or PABX, numbers and mobiles, and when your current agreement ends. We map out what needs to move.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the mix of internet, Hosted PBX or SIP trunks, backup and mobiles that fits your business.

  3. 3 Install the connection and build the phones

We connect your internet and set up call flows, greetings, ring groups and queues on Summit before anything changes.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port request. Keep your Star Telecom service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live and tidy up

Once calls and data are running on Summit, you can arrange to close the old services in line with your existing agreement.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Star Telecom?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier, holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388, and is not affiliated with Star Telecom.
Why switch if my Star Telecom service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, or when they want internet, phones and mobiles from one business-only carrier that runs its own network.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Star Telecom. Check your contract terms, and if you are still within a fixed term, the simplest approach is to time the switch to your contract end date. We can plan the move around that date.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit, including 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your Star Telecom service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my existing PABX?
If you have an on-premises PABX, Summit SIP trunks can connect it to our network. If you would rather move to the cloud, our Hosted PBX replaces the on-site system.
Does Summit offer business nbn everywhere?
Summit business nbn is available nationally and includes a static IP. We can check what is available at your address as part of your quote.
Can my staff use Microsoft Teams for calls?
Yes. Summit provides Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. Summit does not resell Microsoft licences, so your Microsoft licensing stays with your existing arrangement.
What happens if my internet goes down?
With 4G Backup, your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network and fails back when the main service returns.
