Overview

Smartcom Business Communications sells telecommunications to Australian businesses, with offices listed in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Its range includes cloud hosted PBX phone systems, a cloud call centre platform, 1300 and 1800 numbers, Microsoft Teams and Webex calling, and business nbn plans.

Businesses review their phone provider for plenty of ordinary reasons: a contract coming to an end, an office move, a growing team, or wanting internet and phones from one carrier on one bill. If your phone system and inbound numbers are central to how customers reach you, it makes sense to compare your options before you renew.

Summit Internet has been connecting Australian businesses for 26 years. We offer a hosted PBX with every feature included, SIP trunks for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams Calling and 1300 and 1800 numbers, alongside business nbn on our own network.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Smartcom Business Communications.

How Summit Helps

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

Summit's Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month, with auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email and call recording all included. There are no feature tiers to work through.

  • Call queues and ring groups for busy inbound lines

If your team takes a high volume of customer calls, Hosted PBX call queues and ring groups route callers to the right people. Call recording is included for training and quality review.

  • Keep your 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers working

We port existing inbound numbers and provide new 1300 and 1800 numbers, so customers keep calling the number they already know. On-hold messaging and fax to email are available too.

  • SIP trunks for the phone system you already own

If you have an on-premise PBX, Summit SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

Prefer to make and take calls in Teams? Summit connects Teams to the phone network through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.

  • Phones and internet from one carrier

When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised on the connection. Business nbn comes with a static IP included, with 4G Backup available for automatic failover.

  • Mobile apps and preconfigured handsets

Hosted PBX includes mobile and desktop apps so staff can work from anywhere. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped, ready to plug in.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your current phone setup: users, handsets, call flows, call centre requirements and the numbers you use, including any 13, 1300 or 1800 numbers.

  2. 2 Get a tailored quote

We recommend Hosted PBX, SIP trunks or Teams Calling to suit how your business works, plus internet if you want it on the same bill.

  3. 3 Set up and test

We build your call flows, queues and voicemail, and preconfigure and ship handsets where needed, before any numbers move.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old service

Once your numbers are live with Summit, you can arrange to close your previous account.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Smartcom Business Communications?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Smartcom Business Communications in any way.
Why switch if my Smartcom Business Communications service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Many businesses compare providers when a contract is ending, when they move office, or when they want phones and internet with one carrier. We are happy to give you a quote so you can compare.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract for any early termination fees, and where possible time your switch to line up with the end of your contract term.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can generally be ported to Summit, including 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported.
How long does number porting take?
The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days. We will keep you informed throughout the process.
Can Summit handle inbound call centre style calling?
Summit's Hosted PBX includes call queues, ring groups, auto attendant and IVR, and call recording. Tell us how your inbound calls are handled today and we will work through how to set it up.
Can I use my existing phone system?
Yes. If you own an on-premise PBX, Summit SIP trunks can connect it to the phone network, starting from 2 channels.
Do you offer Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes, through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.
Can I move my internet to Summit as well?
Yes. Summit offers business nbn nationally with a static IP included, plus Ethernet over fibre. When your internet is with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised.
