Overview

Plant Communications, which trades as PlantComms, is a Victorian business communications provider. It sells cloud communications for businesses powered by the Access4 platform, including cloud phone and collaboration services, Business SIP for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams calling, call centre services and business internet including nbn.

Businesses review their phone provider for plenty of reasons: a contract is ending, the team is moving office, or they want their phones and the internet connection those phones depend on to come from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks and Microsoft Teams Calling, plus business nbn with a static IP, 4G backup and business mobiles, all on a network we build, own and operate.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Plant Communications.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every product, plan and support process is built around what businesses need, and we have been doing it for 26 years.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped, ready to plug in.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Have

If your business runs its own phone system on SIP, Summit SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volume changes, so you keep the system your staff know.

  • Calling Inside Microsoft Teams

If your team already works in Teams, Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing lets staff make and take business calls from Teams. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now, since Summit does not resell them.

  • Inbound Numbers and Call Handling

Keep your 1300 and 1800 numbers working with Summit, along with fax to email and on-hold messaging, so customers reach you the same way they always have.

  • Voice Prioritised on Our Own Network

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS. Our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres and DDoS protection as standard.

  • Business nbn and Backup in One Place

Business nbn includes a static IP, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. Add 4G Backup, which fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network and fails back when your main link returns.

  • One Bill for Internet, Phones and Mobiles

Internet, phones and business mobile SIM plans come on one bill from one carrier, which makes it simpler to see what you pay for and who to call.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your current phone setup: cloud phone users, SIP channels, Teams calling, numbers and any internet services, plus your contract end date.

  2. 2 Get a recommendation and quote

We design a solution around how your team takes calls and send you a clear quote.

  3. 3 Keep your current service active

Leave your existing Plant Communications services running. Only active numbers can be ported, so cancelling early can put your numbers at risk.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live and then cancel

Once the port completes and your calls are working on Summit, you can arrange to close your old services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Plant Communications?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Plant Communications or Access4.
Why switch if my Plant Communications service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, or when they want their phones and internet from one business-only carrier.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
In most cases, yes. We port your existing numbers to Summit, including 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Plant Communications. Check your contract terms, and if you can, time the switch to your contract end date. We can plan the changeover around that date.
I use Microsoft Teams for calling. Can Summit support that?
Yes. Summit provides Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. You keep your Microsoft licences as they are, since Summit does not resell them.
Can I keep my existing phone system?
If it supports SIP, yes. Summit SIP trunks connect to your existing system, starting from 2 channels and scaling up or down as needed.
Do I need Summit's internet for Summit phones to work?
No, but it helps. When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, and you deal with one carrier for both.
What happens to my handsets?
Talk to us about the handsets you have. For our Hosted PBX we can preconfigure and ship handsets so they are ready to plug in.
