Overview

Over The Wire is a Brisbane-based provider that sold voice, cloud and security services to business, enterprise, government and wholesale customers. Aussie Broadband acquired Over The Wire in 2022, and the overthewire.com.au website now redirects to Aussie Broadband's enterprise site. Over The Wire and NetSIP products are now managed through an Aussie Broadband login portal.

A change of ownership is a natural time to review your services. You might be coming to the end of a contract, moving office, adding staff, or simply wanting your internet and phones from one carrier that works only with businesses. If your SIP trunks, phone numbers and data links were set up years ago, a review is also a good chance to check that what you pay for still matches how your business works today.

Summit Internet has been building business networks for 26 years. We supply business nbn with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre, SIP trunks for existing phone systems and a Hosted PBX cloud phone system, with voice traffic prioritised when the internet connection is also ours.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Over The Wire or Aussie Broadband.

How Summit Helps

  • Internet and phones from one carrier

Put your business internet, phone system and mobiles with Summit and you get one bill and one team to call. When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS so calls stay clear when the line is busy.

  • SIP trunks for the phone system you already own

If your office runs its own PBX on SIP, you can keep the hardware and move the trunks. Summit SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volume changes.

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

Prefer to retire the on-site PBX? Summit Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped ready to plug in.

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Summit business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, at speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. It suits offices running VPNs, remote access, cameras or hosted applications.

  • Ethernet over fibre for data networks

For sites that need dedicated bandwidth, Summit supplies Ethernet over fibre. Our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres, and DDoS protection is standard.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team lives in Microsoft Teams, Summit connects your phone numbers to Teams through Direct Routing, so staff make and take calls from the app. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now, since Summit does not resell them.

  • 4G Backup that switches over automatically

Add 4G Backup and your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, then fails back when the main link returns.

  • Inbound numbers and the extras

Summit supplies 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging, so the services around your main lines can move with them.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Send us a recent bill or a list of your services: internet links, SIP trunks or phone system, numbers, 1300 or 1800 numbers and mobiles. We map each one to a Summit equivalent.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the connection and voice setup that suits your sites and your phone system, and quote it on one bill.

  3. 3 Install the new connection

Your Summit internet service is installed and tested alongside your existing services, so you can keep using them while the new connection is set up.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current voice service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers have ported and everything is working on Summit, you cancel the remaining services with your previous provider, timed to your contract.

Why Over The Wire Customers Choose Summit

  • 01

An independent carrier, not a reseller

Summit Internet holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and builds, owns and operates its own network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres. We have been doing it since August 2000.

  • 02

    Business-only, always

Summit does not sell residential services. Our products are designed for business use.

  • 03

    Voice and data designed together

Because we supply both the connection and the phones, we prioritise voice traffic on our own network and handle both from one place, rather than splitting them across providers.

  • 04

    Room to grow

Start with a couple of SIP channels or a few Hosted PBX users and scale as you add staff, add sites or add business mobile plans, all on the same bill.

  • As a reseller, we primarily work with Summit’s 4G services and have been very impressed. The plans are affordable, flexible, and well suited to our customers—especially for internet failover solutions. The sales and support teams are responsive and genuinely helpful, which is why we’re proud to partner with Summit Internet. We happily recommend them.Read more

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Over The Wire?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not part of, or affiliated with, Over The Wire or Aussie Broadband.
Why switch if my Over The Wire service is working?
If your current services do everything you need at a price you are happy with, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually review when a contract is ending, when they move office or add sites, or when they want their internet and phones from one business-only carrier. We are happy to quote so you can compare.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract end date and any early termination fees. Where possible, we time your switch so the new services are ready as your contract ends.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit, including 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your current voice service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my existing phone system?
Yes. If your PBX supports SIP, Summit SIP trunks connect to it, starting from 2 channels. If you would rather move to the cloud, our Hosted PBX replaces the on-site system.
Do I have to move my internet and phones at the same time?
No. You can move voice first, internet first, or both together. Moving both does mean voice traffic is prioritised on your Summit connection and everything lands on one bill.
Do you support Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes. Summit provides Microsoft Teams Calling through Direct Routing. You keep your Microsoft licences with your existing licensing provider, as Summit does not resell them.
Where does Summit supply services?
Summit business nbn, SIP trunks, Hosted PBX and mobile services are available to Australian businesses nationally. Our fixed wireless network covers Melbourne and regional Victoria, and you can check coverage at your address.
