Overview

Optus is one of Australia's largest telcos and a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore's Singtel, which has owned it outright since 2001. Through Optus Business and Optus Enterprise it sells business mobile plans, business nbn, enterprise data networks and business voice, including the Optus Loop cloud phone system and Microsoft Teams Calling with Optus. Optus also serves a very large residential customer base.

Optus has also told Optus Loop customers that the service is moving to a new platform, Optus Loop with RingCentral. If you are on Loop, our Optus Loop replacement guide covers that change in detail.

Plenty of businesses are well served by Optus. Others review their provider at natural moments: a contract coming to an end, a move to a new office, a phone system change, or simply wanting internet, phones and mobiles from one carrier that only looks after businesses.

Summit is built for exactly that. We supply business nbn with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre, our own cloud phone system, SIP trunks and business mobile plans, all on one bill. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Optus.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn With a Static IP Included

Our business nbn plans are available nationally and include a static IP as standard. On full-fibre nbn, speeds go up to 2000/500 Mbps.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Summit's Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month. Auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps are all included, not sold as add-ons.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Have

Happy with your existing PBX? Our SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing

If your team lives in Teams, we connect it to the phone network with Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences: Summit does not resell them.

  • Business Mobile Plans on the Same Bill

Move your business mobile SIMs to Summit alongside your internet and phones, so everything sits on one invoice with one provider to call.

  • 4G Backup That Fails Over Automatically

4G Backup switches your connection to Australia's biggest mobile network (98.8% population coverage) if your main link drops, then fails back automatically when it returns.

  • Voice Prioritised on Our Own Network

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS. We build, own and operate our network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres and DDoS protection as standard.

  • Inbound Numbers and Extras

Keep or set up 1300 and 1800 numbers, plus fax to email and on-hold messaging, managed alongside the rest of your services.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have now

List your Optus services, such as nbn, phone system, phone numbers and mobiles, and when your contract ends. We will recommend the right mix and give you a clear quote.

  2. 2 Plan the timing

We line up the switch with your contract end date where possible, so you are not paying for two services longer than needed.

  3. 3 Set up your new services

We connect your internet and build your phone system first. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped, ready to plug in.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port for your existing numbers. Keep your Optus service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live, then cancel

Once your numbers are working on Summit and you are happy, you cancel the remaining Optus services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Optus?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Optus or Singtel, and we have been in business since August 2000.
Why switch if my Optus service is working?
If your Optus services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually talk to us when a contract is ending, they are moving office, they are changing phone systems, or they want internet, phones and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Optus. Check your contract end date and any early termination terms before you switch. Where possible, we time the move to line up with the end of your contract.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit. Keep your Optus service active until the port is complete, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and ports involving multiple numbers can take up to 30 days.
I am on Optus Loop. What are my options?
Optus has told Loop customers the service is moving to Optus Loop with RingCentral. You can stay with that, or compare a move to another provider. Our Optus Loop replacement page explains the change and how Summit's Hosted PBX compares in features.
Do you offer Microsoft Teams Calling?
Yes. We connect Microsoft Teams to the phone network using Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.
Can I move my business mobiles as well?
Yes. Summit offers business mobile SIM plans, so your mobiles can sit on the same bill as your internet and phones.
Do I have to move everything at once?
No. Many businesses start with one service, such as their phone system or internet, and move the rest as other contracts end. See all our switch options.
