Overview

ONQ Communications (On Q Communications) is an Australian business telco that lists Brisbane, Cairns and Toowoomba among its service locations. It sells business internet over its own fibre and fixed wireless network combined with the nbn, along with business communications: hosted Unified Communications, SIP trunking, 13 and 1800 inbound numbers and Microsoft Teams voice. It also offers connectivity and managed services such as private IP WAN, SD-WAN, 4G backup, managed firewalls and managed WiFi.

Businesses review their phone provider for ordinary reasons: a contract coming to an end, a move to a new office or a new state, a phone system that needs replacing, or a wish to have phones and internet with a single carrier that only serves businesses.

Summit Internet is a business-only carrier that has served Australian businesses for 26 years. We provide a Hosted PBX cloud phone system, SIP trunks for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams Calling, 1300 and 1800 numbers and business nbn with a static IP, all on a network we build, own and operate.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with ONQ Communications.

How Summit Helps

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

If you use a hosted phone system today, our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email and call recording.

  • Handsets ready to plug in

Hosted PBX includes mobile and desktop apps so staff can take calls anywhere. If you want desk handsets, we can preconfigure them and ship them ready to plug in.

  • SIP trunks for the system you already own

If you run an on-premises phone system on SIP trunks, Summit SIP trunks connect it to our network. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your staff make calls in Teams, we connect your numbers to Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. Summit does not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep your existing licensing.

  • Your 1300 and 1800 numbers

Summit provides 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, and existing numbers can generally be ported across so the number on your website and vehicles stays the same.

  • Internet that puts voice first

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised so calls stay clear when the office is busy. Business nbn comes with a static IP included, up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn, or choose Ethernet over fibre.

  • Keep calling if the line drops

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back when your main service returns.

  • Fax to email and on-hold messaging

Summit also provides fax to email and on-hold messaging, so the extras around your phone system move with it.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your numbers, your phone system or hosted service, how calls are routed and your internet connection. We map out what needs to move.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the mix of Hosted PBX, SIP trunks or Teams Calling, inbound numbers, internet and backup that suits how your business takes calls.

  3. 3 Set up the new service

We build your call flows, ring groups and greetings on Summit before anything changes, and ship preconfigured handsets if you need them.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port request. Keep your ONQ Communications service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live and tidy up

Once calls are arriving on Summit, you can arrange to close the old service in line with your existing agreement.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of ONQ Communications?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with ONQ Communications.
Why switch if my ONQ Communications service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, when their phone system needs replacing, or when they want phones and internet from one business-only carrier.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, can generally be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported.
How long does porting take?
The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days. We set up your new service before the port so calls keep flowing.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with ONQ Communications. Check your contract terms, and if there is a fixed term, we can time the switch to line up with its end date.
Do I need a new phone system?
Not necessarily. If you have an on-premises system you are happy with, SIP trunks connect it to Summit. If you would rather move to the cloud, Hosted PBX includes every feature from $10 per user per month.
Can I use Microsoft Teams for calls?
Yes. Summit connects your numbers to Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. We do not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep your existing licensing.
Do I have to move my internet to Summit as well?
No. You can take voice on its own. When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised on the connection. Summit's business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included.
Can I keep a backup connection for my phones?
Yes. 4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network and fails back when your main service returns.
