Overview

Octel is a business telco with a Melbourne office that sells internet and phone services to businesses. Its range covers business nbn, nbn Enterprise Ethernet, high speed fibre, a hosted PBX cloud phone system, Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams, and 1300, 1800 and 13 inbound numbers.

Businesses review their telco for ordinary reasons: a contract coming to an end, an office move, a growing team, or wanting internet, phones and mobiles from a single carrier on one bill. If any of those apply to you, it is worth comparing options before you renew.

Summit Internet has been connecting Australian businesses for 26 years. We build, own and operate our own network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres, and we sell only to businesses. That means we can quote the whole stack: business nbn or Ethernet over fibre, a Hosted PBX or Teams Calling, inbound numbers and 4G Backup.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Octel.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Every Summit business nbn service comes with a static IP included. On full-fibre nbn, plans go up to 2000/500 Mbps, and DDoS protection is standard.

  • Ethernet over fibre for sites that need more

If you are on an enterprise ethernet or fibre service today, Summit offers Ethernet over fibre delivered over our own carrier network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres.

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

Summit's Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month, with auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps included. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped to your office.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling through Direct Routing

If your staff make calls from Teams, Summit can connect your numbers to Teams via Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.

  • Keep your 1300 and 1800 numbers

Summit supports 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, along with fax to email and on-hold messaging, so the numbers on your website and marketing can come with you.

  • Voice prioritised on your own connection

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, so calls are handled ahead of bulk data on the same link.

  • 4G Backup that fails over automatically

4G Backup switches to Australia's biggest mobile network (98.8% population coverage) if your main connection drops, then fails back automatically when it returns.

  • Internet, phones and mobiles on one bill

Add business mobile SIM plans and your internet, phone system and mobiles sit with one carrier, on one bill.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your current Octel services, such as business nbn, fibre, Hosted PBX seats, Teams Direct Routing and inbound numbers, plus your contract end date.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend the right connection and phone setup for each site and send a written quote.

  3. 3 Install the new connection

We schedule the Summit internet installation and agree the cutover time with you before anything changes.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port for your phone and inbound numbers. Keep your Octel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers are live on Summit and everything is tested, you cancel your remaining Octel services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Octel?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Octel.
Why switch if my Octel service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to switch. Most businesses review their provider at contract end, when moving office or when they want internet, phones and mobiles with one carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Octel. Check your contract terms, and if there are early termination costs, time your switch to your contract end date. We can plan the cutover around it.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, can be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
I use Teams Direct Routing with Octel. Can Summit do the same?
Yes. Summit provides Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. You keep your Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.
What does Summit's Hosted PBX include?
Hosted PBX is from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps.
Do I get a static IP on business nbn?
Yes. Summit business nbn includes a static IP, and is available nationally.
Should I cancel my Octel services first?
No. Keep your Octel services running until your Summit services are live and your numbers have ported, then cancel what remains.
