Overview

NTD (National Telephone & Data) is a Queensland business communications provider that has been operating since 1994, with locations in Cairns, Townsville, Central Queensland and Brisbane. It sells hosted and on-premise phone systems using VoIP or existing phone lines, along with unified communications, private networks and cloud infrastructure for businesses.

Businesses review their phone provider for ordinary reasons: a contract is ending, the office is moving, an on-premise phone system is due for replacement, or they want internet, phones and mobiles from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams Calling, 1300 and 1800 numbers, business nbn with a static IP and business mobile, with internet delivered over a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with NTD.

How Summit Helps

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps. There are no feature tiers to work through.

  • Keep Your On-Premise Phone System

If your business runs its own phone system on site and you are happy with it, our SIP trunks connect it to our network. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Handsets Ready to Plug In

For a move to Hosted PBX, handsets can be preconfigured and shipped to you, so your staff plug them in and start taking calls.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team already works in Microsoft Teams, we can connect it to the phone network through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as we do not resell them.

  • Voice Prioritised on Your Own Connection

When your business nbn is also with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised across the connection. Business nbn includes a static IP, with up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn.

  • Inbound Numbers, Fax and On-Hold

We provide 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging, so the extras around your main phone lines sit with the same carrier.

  • Backup That Keeps Calls Flowing

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main connection returns.

  • One Bill for Phones, Internet and Mobile

Internet, phones and business mobile SIM plans come on one bill from one carrier.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Send us a recent bill and a list of your numbers, handsets and whether your phone system is hosted or on-premise, plus any contract end dates.

  2. 2 Get a plan and quote

We recommend Hosted PBX, SIP trunks for your existing system or Teams Calling, and quote internet and mobile alongside if you want them.

  3. 3 Set up your new service

We configure your phone system and, for Hosted PBX, can preconfigure and ship your handsets before the changeover.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old service

Once your numbers are working on Summit, you can arrange to cancel your old services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of NTD?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with NTD.
Why switch if my NTD service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, an on-premise system is due for replacement, they are moving office, or they want phones, internet and mobile from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract terms and end date, and we can time the switch to line up with your contract ending.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my on-premise phone system?
In many cases, yes. If your system supports SIP, our SIP trunks can connect it to our network, starting from 2 channels. If it is due for replacement, Hosted PBX is the alternative.
What does Summit's Hosted PBX include?
Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps.
Can I use Microsoft Teams for calls?
Yes. We connect Teams to the phone network through Direct Routing. We do not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep the ones you already have.
Do I need to move my internet to Summit as well?
No, our voice services work over other connections. When your internet is also with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised and everything is on one bill.
Does Summit provide 1300 and 1800 numbers?
Yes. We provide 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, along with fax to email and on-hold messaging.
