Overview

Nexthop describes itself as an Australian telecommunications carrier providing dark fibre, IP transit and 10 Gbit internet on a network it built, owns and operates. Its business range includes fibre internet from 500 Mbps to 10 Gbps, nbn plans, data centre internet and dark fibre, wavelengths and NBN POI backhaul, with coverage across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Businesses review their connectivity for ordinary reasons: a contract is coming to an end, the office is moving, or they want internet and phones from one carrier instead of several suppliers. Some simply prefer a provider that only deals with businesses.

Summit Internet focuses on the office connection and everything that runs over it. We supply business nbn with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre, 4G Backup and business phone systems, delivered over a network we build, own and operate. If you keep dark fibre, wavelengths or transit with another carrier, we can still provide the office internet and phones around them.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Nexthop.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Our business nbn plans include a static IP, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. It suits offices that run VPNs, remote access or hosted applications.

  • Ethernet over fibre for sites that need more

Where a standard nbn service is not enough, Ethernet over fibre gives a dedicated business-grade connection.

  • Our own network, with NEXTDC Points of Presence

Summit builds, owns and operates its network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres. You deal directly with the carrier that runs the network.

  • DDoS protection as standard

Summit includes DDoS protection as standard.

  • 4G Backup that switches over automatically

4G Backup fails over to Australia's biggest mobile network (98.8% population coverage) if your main link drops, then fails back automatically when it returns.

  • Fixed wireless in Melbourne and regional Victoria

For Melbourne and regional Victorian sites, Summit fixed wireless offers symmetric speeds from 10 Mbps up to 10 Gbps across 500+ suburbs, installed in 10 business days or the first month is free.

  • Phones on the same connection

Add a Hosted PBX from $10 per user per month or SIP trunks for an existing phone system. When the internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised.

  • One bill for internet, phones and mobile

Internet, phones and business mobile SIM plans all come on one Summit bill, with one carrier to call.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

List your current Nexthop services, site addresses and contract end dates, and note which services you plan to keep, such as dark fibre or data centre links.

  2. 2 Get a recommendation and quote

We match each site to business nbn, Ethernet over fibre or, in Melbourne and regional Victoria, fixed wireless, and add 4G Backup where it makes sense.

  3. 3 Schedule the install

We time the new connection to suit your contract end date or office move, so you are not paying for two services longer than necessary.

  4. 4 Cut over

Your new service is installed before you switch traffic across. If you are also moving phones, numbers are ported while the old service stays active.

  5. 5 Cancel the old service

Once everything is running on Summit, you cancel the services you no longer need with your previous provider.

Why Nexthop Customers Choose Summit

  • 01

A licensed carrier with its own network

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and has been in business for 26 years. We build, own and operate our network rather than reselling someone else's.

  • 02

    Business only

Summit does not sell residential services. We only deal with business customers.

  • 03

    Internet and phones together

Many businesses want their connection and their phone system from one carrier. Summit supplies both, with voice traffic prioritised on Summit internet.

  • 04

    Flexible about what stays where

You do not have to move everything at once. Keep your dark fibre or data centre links where they are and move the office connectivity, or start with one site and add others later.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Nexthop?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Nexthop.
Why switch if my Nexthop service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually review their provider at contract end, when moving office, or when they want internet and phones from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract for the end date and any early termination charges. We can time your Summit installation to line up with your contract end so you avoid paying for two services.
Does Summit sell dark fibre or IP transit?
Summit's focus is business internet, phones and mobile for offices and sites. We supply business nbn, Ethernet over fibre, fixed wireless in Melbourne and regional Victoria, and 4G Backup. Tell us what you need and we will say plainly which parts Summit can supply.
Can I move only some of my services?
Yes. Many businesses move their office internet and phones first and keep specialised links, such as dark fibre between data centres, with their existing carrier.
Do I get a static IP?
Yes. A static IP is included with Summit business nbn, and 4G Static IP is available where a mobile connection needs a fixed address.
Can Summit provide phones as well as internet?
Yes. Summit offers a Hosted PBX cloud phone system from $10 per user per month, SIP trunks for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing and 1300 and 1800 numbers.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit. Keep your current phone service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Is fixed wireless available everywhere?
No. Summit fixed wireless is available in Melbourne and regional Victoria only. You can check your address. Business nbn is available to Australian businesses nationally.
