Overview

Nexgen Australia sells business phone systems to small, medium and enterprise businesses, including cloud VoIP, on-premises PBX and hybrid systems, along with business internet and voice services, security cameras and printers and copiers. It started as a phone system provider in 2009 and works with brands including Cisco, Webex by Cisco and NEC. Nexgen was acquired by Spirit in 2021, and in February 2026 Aussie Broadband announced it would acquire Nexgen from Infotrust, with Nexgen continuing to operate as a standalone business.

Businesses review their phone provider for plenty of reasons: an agreement is coming to an end, the team is moving office, a change of ownership prompts a fresh look, or they want their phones and the internet connection those phones depend on to come from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks for phone systems you already own and Microsoft Teams Calling, plus business nbn with a static IP, 4G backup and business mobiles, all on a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Nexgen Australia.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every product, plan and support process is built around what businesses need, and we have been doing it for 26 years.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Every feature is included, so there are no add-ons to work out per user.

  • Handsets Ready to Plug In

If your team is used to desk phones, we can preconfigure the handsets and ship them to you, so they work as soon as they are plugged in.

  • SIP Trunks for a Phone System You Already Own

If your business owns an on-premises or hybrid PBX, you do not have to replace it to change carrier. SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team works in Teams, Teams Calling connects it to the phone network through Direct Routing, so staff make and take calls on their business numbers from Teams. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now.

  • Voice Prioritised on Your Own Carrier's Network

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS. Business nbn comes with a static IP included, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn, and Ethernet over fibre is available for sites that need a dedicated connection. Our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres with DDoS protection as standard.

  • 4G Backup for When the Line Drops

A cloud phone system needs a working connection. 4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main service returns.

  • Inbound Numbers, Mobiles and One Bill

Add 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email, on-hold messaging and business mobile SIM plans. Internet, phones and mobile arrive on one bill.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have now

List your numbers, handsets, call flows and internet services, whether you own or rent your phone system, and when your agreement with Nexgen Australia ends.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend the right phone setup, whether Hosted PBX, SIP trunks for your existing system or Teams Calling, plus internet and backup if you want them, and send you a written quote.

  3. 3 Set up your phone system

We build your auto attendant, ring groups and queues to match how your team works, and preconfigure and ship handsets if you need them.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We port your existing numbers across. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel once you are live

When your numbers have moved and calls are working, you cancel the old service.

Why Nexgen Australia Customers Choose Summit

  • 01

Phones and Internet From One Carrier

A cloud phone system is only as good as the connection under it. With Summit, the phone system, the internet connection and the backup all come from one carrier, so one team is responsible for the whole path a call takes.

  • 02

    A Licensed Australian Carrier

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and has been connecting Australian businesses since August 2000. We build, own and operate our own network.

  • 03

Keep Your Hardware or Move to the Cloud

If you own your phone system, SIP trunks let you keep it. If you would rather move to the cloud, Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Nexgen Australia?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Nexgen Australia or Aussie Broadband, and this page is not endorsed by either.
Why switch if my Nexgen Australia service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually talk to us when an agreement is ending, when they are moving office, or when they want their phone system, internet and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with Nexgen Australia, including any equipment rental or finance arrangement. Check your agreement before you switch. The simplest approach is to time the move to the end of your contract, and we can plan the changeover so your new service is ready by then.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes. We can port your existing numbers to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep the phone system I already own?
Yes, in most cases. If your business owns its PBX, SIP trunks connect it to Summit's network, starting from 2 channels. If the system is rented or financed, check your agreement first.
What does Hosted PBX cost?
Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month, with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps.
Can you supply our internet as well?
Yes. Summit provides business nbn nationally with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre and 4G Static IP. In Melbourne and regional Victoria we also offer fixed wireless. When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised.
Do you support Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes. We connect Teams to the phone network through Direct Routing, so your team can use business numbers in Teams. We do not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep those as they are.
