Overview

National Phone & Data is an Australian owned business communications provider. It sells direct fibre and nbn internet, SIP trunking, hosted phone systems and office-to-office networking to Australian businesses.

Businesses review their provider for ordinary reasons: a contract is coming to an end, the office is moving, or they want internet and phones handled by the same carrier that runs the network. Some simply want a provider that only works with businesses.

Summit Internet is a licensed carrier (ACMA Carrier Licence #388) and has served Australian businesses for 26 years. We supply business nbn with a static IP, Ethernet over fibre, SIP trunks for your existing phone system and a hosted PBX if you'd rather move phones to the cloud, all on one bill.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with National Phone & Data.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Every business nbn service comes with a static IP. On full-fibre nbn, plans go up to 2000/500 Mbps.

  • Fibre for sites that need it

If you currently run a direct fibre service, Ethernet over fibre gives you a business fibre connection on Summit's network. In Melbourne and regional Victoria, fixed wireless is another option, with symmetric speeds from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps.

  • SIP trunks for your existing phone system

Keep the phone system you already have and point it at Summit SIP trunks. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • A hosted phone system with every feature included

Our hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped to you.

  • Voice that's prioritised on your own connection

When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, so calls aren't fighting downloads for bandwidth.

  • Our own network, with DDoS protection

Summit builds, owns and operates its network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres. DDoS protection comes as standard.

  • Keep trading if the line drops

Add 4G Backup and your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network (98.8% population coverage), then fails back when your main service returns.

  • One bill for internet, phones and mobiles

Internet, phones and business mobile SIMs sit on a single Summit bill, along with 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Send us a recent bill or a list of your fibre, nbn, SIP and hosted phone services and we'll work out the equivalent on Summit.

  2. 2 Get a quote and a plan

We'll quote the services you need and time the switch around your contract end date or office move.

  3. 3 Connect your internet

We aim to install your new connection before anything is cut over, so you can test it before you move across.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current phone service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers are live on Summit, you can cancel your remaining services with your old provider.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of National Phone & Data?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with National Phone & Data in any way.
Why switch if my National Phone & Data service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they're moving office, or when they want internet and phones from one carrier on one bill.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with National Phone & Data. Check your contract terms and end date. We can time your switch to line up with the end of your contract.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my existing phone system?
In most cases, yes. Summit SIP trunks connect to existing phone systems, starting from 2 channels. If you'd rather retire the system, our hosted PBX replaces it.
Do you offer fibre as well as nbn?
Yes. We supply business nbn nationally with a static IP included, and Ethernet over fibre for sites that need a fibre connection.
Do you use Microsoft Teams for calling?
We support Microsoft Teams Calling through Direct Routing. We don't resell Microsoft licences, so you keep those with your current Microsoft supplier.
What happens to my internet during the switch?
We aim to connect your new Summit service before you cancel anything, so you can test it before you move across. Don't cancel your old service until your new one is working and any number ports are complete.
