Overview

Maxo, trading as MaxoTel (Maxo Telecommunications Pty Ltd), is an Australian VoIP provider. It sells a hosted PBX, SIP trunking for businesses with their own phone systems, Australian and virtual mobile numbers, SMS and fax to email, a Microsoft Teams integration, nbn plans, and a SIM voice and data pool for its existing telephony customers. In 2023 it acquired toll-free provider Zintel and contact centre provider Fonebox from Aussie Broadband, and in October 2025 it completed its acquisition of the ASX-listed Vonex, which continues to trade under its own brand.

Businesses review their phone and internet provider for plenty of reasons: an agreement is ending, the team is moving office, or they want their phones and the connection those phones run over to come from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks and Microsoft Teams Calling, alongside business nbn with a static IP, 4G backup and business mobiles, all on a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Maxo.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every product, plan and support process is built around what businesses need, and we have been doing it for 26 years.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Every feature is included, so there are no add-ons to work out per user.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Own

If your business runs its own PBX on Maxo SIP trunks, Summit SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team works in Teams, Teams Calling connects it to the phone network through Direct Routing, so staff make and take calls on their business numbers from Teams. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now.

  • Business nbn With a Static IP Included

Business nbn comes with a static IP included, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. Sites that need more can move to Ethernet over fibre, and our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres with DDoS protection as standard.

  • Voice Prioritised on Your Own Carrier's Network

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, so your calls and your data are managed by the same carrier end to end.

  • 4G Backup for When the Line Drops

A cloud phone system needs a working connection. 4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main service returns.

  • Inbound Numbers, Mobiles and One Bill

Add 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email, on-hold messaging and business mobile SIM plans. Internet, phones and mobile arrive on one bill.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have with Maxo

List your numbers, users, call flows and queues, whether you use a hosted PBX or SIP trunks, any nbn and mobile services, and when your agreements end.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend the right setup, whether Hosted PBX, Teams Calling or SIP trunks, plus business nbn and backup if you want them, and send you a written quote.

  3. 3 Set up your services

We build your auto attendant, ring groups and queues to match how your team works, preconfigure and ship handsets if you need them, and order your internet connection.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We port your existing numbers across. Keep your Maxo service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel once you are live

When your numbers have moved and calls and internet are working, you cancel the old services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Maxo?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388, and we are not affiliated with Maxo, MaxoTel or Vonex.
Why switch if my Maxo service is working?
If your current setup does everything your business needs, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when an agreement is ending, when they move office, or when they want phones, internet and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with Maxo, so check them before you switch. The simplest approach is to time the move to the end of your current term, and we can plan the changeover around that date.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, we can port your existing numbers to Summit. Keep your Maxo service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
I use Maxo SIP trunks with my own phone system. Can I keep it?
Yes. If your phone system supports SIP, it can connect to Summit SIP trunks, which start from 2 channels and scale up or down.
Can you replace my hosted PBX as well as my internet?
Yes. Summit's Hosted PBX includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps, and it can run over business nbn from Summit with voice prioritised.
Do you support Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes. Teams Calling uses Direct Routing to connect Teams to the phone network. Summit does not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep buying those as you do now.
Do you offer business mobiles?
Yes. Summit offers business mobile SIM plans, and they can sit on the same bill as your phones and internet.
What happens to my internet if the nbn line goes down?
With 4G Backup, your connection fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network and fails back automatically when your main service returns.
