Overview

Host Tel sells business communications aimed at small and medium businesses, including hosted telephony, SIP trunks, virtual faxing and 1300 and 1800 numbers. It says it grew out of a business called MyFax and has traded under the Host Tel name since May 2006.

Businesses review their phone provider for plenty of reasons: a contract is ending, they are moving office, or they want internet and phones from one carrier that deals only with businesses, so there is one network and one provider responsible for call quality.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks for the phone system you already own, Microsoft Teams Calling, inbound numbers and fax to email, together with business internet on a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Host Tel.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Our products are built for businesses, and we have been in business for 26 years.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Moving from hosted telephony? Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. We can preconfigure your handsets and ship them to you.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Own

If your own PBX connects to Host Tel SIP trunks today, Summit SIP trunks can take over. They start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • 1300 and 1800 Numbers

Bring your 1300 and 1800 numbers across, and add on-hold messaging alongside your phone system.

  • Fax to Email

If you rely on virtual faxing today, Summit fax to email delivers incoming faxes to your inbox, so there is still no fax machine to maintain.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team lives in Teams, Teams Calling connects it to the phone network through Direct Routing, so staff make and take calls on their business numbers from Teams. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now.

  • Voice Prioritised When the Internet Is Ours Too

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS. Business nbn comes with a static IP included, and in Melbourne and regional Victoria we offer fixed wireless across 500+ suburbs.

  • Phones, Internet and Mobile on One Bill

Our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres and DDoS protection as standard. Add 4G Backup and business mobile SIM plans, and your internet, phones and mobiles arrive on one bill from one carrier.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

List your Host Tel services, such as hosted telephony users, SIP trunks or virtual fax, your numbers including any 1300 or 1800 numbers, and the internet you use today.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend a hosted phone system, SIP trunks or Teams Calling to match how you work, and send you a written quote.

  3. 3 Set up your new service

We configure your phone system or trunks, with handsets preconfigured and shipped if you need them, and connect your internet if it is moving too.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We port your existing numbers across. Keep your Host Tel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel once you are live

When your numbers have moved and calls are working on Summit, you close the old account.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Host Tel?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Host Tel.
Why switch if my Host Tel service is working?
If your current services do everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, they are moving office, or they want phones and internet from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Host Tel. Check the terms on your account, including any commitments on numbers or equipment. The simplest approach is to time the switch to your contract end, and we can plan the move around that date.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, can be ported to Summit. Keep your Host Tel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my existing phone system?
If you own an IP-capable PBX, SIP trunks connect it to Summit, starting from 2 channels. If you would rather stay in the cloud, our Hosted PBX includes every feature.
Can I still receive faxes?
Yes. Summit offers fax to email, so incoming faxes arrive in your inbox without a fax machine.
Do you support Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes. We provide Teams Calling through Direct Routing. Summit does not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep those with your current Microsoft provider.
Do I need Summit internet to use Summit phones?
No. You can use Summit phones without moving your internet to us. When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS.
