Overview

Fonet is an Australian business telco with a postal address in South Melbourne. It sells business nbn, nbn Enterprise Ethernet and fibre internet, SIP lines, cloud telephony, 13 and 1300 inbound numbers and mobile plans, along with NEC phone systems, copiers and security equipment.

Most businesses review their telco at a natural moment: a contract coming to an end, a move to a new office, a phone system due for replacement, or a wish to have internet and phones handled by one carrier that sells only to businesses.

Summit offers business nbn with a static IP included, Ethernet over fibre, a Hosted PBX cloud phone system, SIP trunks for existing phone systems and 1300 and 1800 numbers, all on a network we build, own and operate.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Fonet.

How Summit Helps

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Summit's business nbn comes with a static IP included, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. It suits offices running remote access, cameras or hosted applications.

  • Ethernet over fibre for sites that need more

When a site needs more than nbn, Summit delivers Ethernet over fibre on its own network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres and DDoS protection as standard.

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

Summit's Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped ready to plug in.

  • SIP trunks for the phone system you already own

If you have an on-premises phone system you want to keep, Summit SIP trunks connect to it. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your needs change.

  • Keep your existing numbers

Summit can port your existing numbers and supplies 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, fax to email and on-hold messaging, so your customers keep calling the numbers they know.

  • Calls prioritised on Summit internet

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS.

  • 4G Backup and business mobiles

Add 4G Backup for automatic failover to Australia's biggest mobile network, with automatic fail-back. Business mobile SIM plans sit on the same bill.

  • Fixed wireless in Melbourne and regional Victoria

For sites in Melbourne and regional Victoria, Summit fixed wireless is also available. Check coverage for your address.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your current internet services, phone numbers, phone system and contract end dates, and we'll map out what needs to move.

  2. 2 Get a quote and a plan

We recommend internet, voice and mobile services to suit each site and timeline the switch around your contract.

  3. 3 Install your connection

Summit installs your internet service first, so it's tested and ready before any calls move across.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live and cancel the old services

Once your numbers are working on Summit, you can arrange to cancel the remaining services with your old provider.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Fonet?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388, and is not affiliated with Fonet.
Why switch if my Fonet service is working?
If your current services do everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, they're moving office, their phone system needs replacing, or they want internet and phones from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Fonet. Check your contract terms and end date; most businesses time the switch to their contract end, and we can plan the installation around it.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can generally be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my existing phone system?
If your phone system supports SIP, it can usually connect to Summit SIP trunks, starting from 2 channels. If you'd rather move to the cloud, Summit Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included.
Can I move my 13 or 1300 number?
Summit supplies 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers and can port existing inbound numbers. Talk to us about your numbers and we'll confirm what's involved.
Do you offer business nbn?
Yes. Summit business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. Ethernet over fibre is available for sites that need more.
Can I keep my internet connected if the nbn drops out?
Summit 4G Backup automatically fails over to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main connection returns.
