Overview

Fonality provided business phone systems to small and medium-sized businesses, including Fonality Connect, a cloud-based virtual phone system that launched in Australia in 2010 and was sold through Fonality Australia. Fonality's Australian business traces back to Australian firm Insightful Solutions, which merged with the US company in 2007. NetFortris acquired Fonality in 2017, and Sangoma acquired NetFortris in 2022. The fonality.com.au website now redirects to Sangoma's Australian website, and Fonality's user guides sit in Sangoma's documentation under "Legacy Fonality".

Businesses review their provider when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, or when they want their phones and the internet connection those phones depend on to come from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks and Microsoft Teams Calling, plus business nbn with a static IP, 4G backup and business mobiles, all on a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Fonality.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every product, plan and support process is built around what businesses need, and we have been doing it for 26 years.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Every feature is included, so there are no add-ons to work out per user.

  • Desk Phones Ready to Plug In

If your team is used to handsets on every desk, we can preconfigure the handsets and ship them to you.

  • SIP Trunks for a Phone System You Own

Running your own PBX on site? SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change, so you can keep the hardware you have while you decide what comes next.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team lives in Teams, Teams Calling connects it to the phone network through Direct Routing, so staff make and take calls on their business numbers from Teams. You keep buying your Microsoft licences as you do now.

  • Voice Prioritised on Your Own Carrier's Network

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS. Business nbn comes with a static IP included, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn, and our network has Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres with DDoS protection as standard.

  • 4G Backup for When the Line Drops

A cloud phone system needs a working connection. 4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main service returns.

  • Inbound Numbers, Mobiles and One Bill

Add 1300 and 1800 numbers, fax to email, on-hold messaging and business mobile SIM plans. Internet, phones and mobile arrive on one bill.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us how you use your phones

List your Fonality numbers, users, extensions, call flows and queues, whether your system is hosted or on site, and when your agreement ends.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend the right phone setup, whether Hosted PBX, Teams Calling or SIP trunks for your existing PBX, plus internet and backup if you want them, and send you a written quote.

  3. 3 Set up your phone system

We build your auto attendant, ring groups and queues to match how your team works, and preconfigure and ship handsets if you need them.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We port your existing numbers across. Keep your Fonality service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel once you are live

When your numbers have moved and calls are working, you cancel the old service.

Why Fonality Customers Choose Summit

  • 01

Phones and Internet From One Carrier

A cloud phone system is only as good as the connection under it. With Summit, the phone system, the internet connection and the backup all come from one carrier, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, and everything arrives on one bill.

  • 02

    A Licensed Australian Carrier

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and has been connecting Australian businesses since August 2000. We build, own and operate our own network.

  • 03

Every Feature, One Price Per User

Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included, so adding a call queue or call recording does not change your plan.

  • 04

    Built Only for Businesses

We do not sell residential services. Our products and support are designed for businesses that depend on their phones every day.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Fonality?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Fonality or Sangoma, and this page is not endorsed by either company.
Why switch if my Fonality service is working?
If your Fonality system does everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually talk to us when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, or when they want their phone system, internet and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes. We port your existing numbers to Summit. Keep your Fonality service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Fonality. Check your terms, and if there is a minimum term, we can plan the switch so your Summit service is ready when it ends.
What kind of phone system does Summit offer?
Hosted PBX is our cloud phone system, from $10 per user per month with auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps included. We also offer Microsoft Teams Calling through Direct Routing and SIP trunks for phone systems you own.
I have a phone system on site. Do I have to replace it?
Not necessarily. If your PBX supports SIP, SIP trunks from 2 channels can connect it to the phone network. If you would rather move to the cloud, Hosted PBX replaces the on-site system and we can preconfigure new handsets.
Do I need to change my internet provider too?
No. Our phone services work over your existing connection. If you would like your internet with us as well, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS when the connection is also Summit's, and you get one bill for internet, phones and mobile.
Can I keep my 1300 or 1800 number?
Yes. We provide 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, and existing inbound numbers can be ported across in the same way as your other numbers.
What happens if my internet goes down?
Add 4G Backup. It fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically when your main connection returns.
