Overview

Evolution Communications describes itself as a Queensland-owned business phone and internet provider. Its business range includes Business nbn, Enterprise nbn, business fibre and fixed wireless broadband on the internet side, and a cloud-based PBX, SIP trunks and Net Phones on the voice side.

Businesses review their provider for ordinary reasons: a contract is coming to an end, the office is moving, the team has grown, or they want internet and phones from a single carrier that only works with businesses. If any of those apply, it is worth comparing your options before you renew.

Summit is a business-only carrier. We build, own and operate our own network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres, and we provide Business nbn nationally with a static IP included, Hosted PBX, SIP trunks and 4G Backup. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Evolution Data and Communications or Evolution Communications.

How Summit Helps

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

If you use a cloud-based PBX today, our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped to you.

  • SIP trunks for the phone system you already own

If you run your own phone system on SIP trunks, our SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volume changes. You keep your equipment and change only the carrier.

  • Business nbn with a static IP included

Our Business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, with speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. It is built for businesses, because businesses are the only customers we have.

  • Ethernet over fibre when nbn is not enough

For sites that need more than an nbn service, Ethernet over fibre runs on the network Summit builds, owns and operates, with DDoS protection as standard.

  • Voice that gets priority on your connection

When your internet and phones are both with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, so calls are not competing with large downloads or video meetings for bandwidth.

  • Automatic 4G failover

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, which covers 98.8% of the population, and fails back automatically once your main service returns.

  • Inbound numbers and Teams calling

Keep your 1300 and 1800 numbers, add fax to email and on-hold messaging, or connect Microsoft Teams Calling through Direct Routing using the Microsoft licences you already have.

  • One bill for internet, phones and mobile

Summit can supply internet, voice and business mobile SIM plans on a single bill, from a single carrier.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Send us a recent bill or a list of your services, numbers and contract end dates, and we will map out what moves and when.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend a matching setup, such as Business nbn with Hosted PBX or SIP trunks, and give you a written quote.

  3. 3 Install your connection

We arrange your new internet service and, for Hosted PBX, preconfigure and ship your handsets so they are ready to plug in.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port of your existing numbers. Keep your current phone service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers are live with Summit and everything is working, you cancel the remaining services with your old provider.

Why Evolution Data and Communications Customers Choose Summit

  • 01

    An independent, licensed carrier

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and has been in business since August 2000. We build, own and operate our own network rather than simply reselling someone else's.

  • 02

    Business-only, by design

We do not sell residential services. Every product, plan and process is built around how businesses use internet and phones.

  • 03

Internet and voice designed to work together

Putting both services with one carrier means voice gets QoS priority on your connection and there is one provider responsible for both.

  • 04

    Room to grow

Start with a few SIP channels or a handful of Hosted PBX users, then add users, channels, 4G Backup, mobile plans or Ethernet over fibre as the business changes.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Evolution Data and Communications?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Evolution Data and Communications, Evolution Communications or Evolution Group.
Why switch if my Evolution Data and Communications service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look around when a contract is ending, when they move office, or when they want internet and phones from one business-only carrier. A quote costs nothing and helps you compare.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with your current provider. Check your contract end date and any exit fees first. The simplest approach is to time your switch to line up with the end of your contract, and we can plan the move around that date.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can generally be ported to Summit, including 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
I use a cloud-based PBX. What would I move to?
Most businesses in that position move to Summit's Hosted PBX, our cloud phone system. It starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included, and we can preconfigure and ship handsets.
I have my own phone system on SIP trunks. Do I need to replace it?
Not necessarily. Summit's SIP trunks connect to existing phone systems, starting from 2 channels. We will confirm compatibility with your system as part of the quote.
Does Summit offer business nbn outside Victoria?
Yes. Summit's Business nbn is available to Australian businesses nationally, with a static IP included. Our fixed wireless network covers Melbourne and regional Victoria only.
Can I move internet and phones at the same time?
Yes. Many businesses move both together so that voice gets QoS priority on a Summit connection and everything sits on one bill. We will plan the order of the changes with you before anything is cancelled.
