Overview

BigTel (Bigtel Pty Ltd) sells telecommunications to Australian businesses, including hosted, on-premises and 3CX phone systems, 1300 and 1800 numbers, Microsoft Teams integration, business nbn and fibre internet, and mobile plans on the Telstra Wholesale network.

Businesses review their provider for ordinary reasons: a contract coming to an end, a move to a new office, a phone system that needs replacing, or simply wanting internet and phones from one carrier that deals only with businesses. That is a good moment to compare what else is available.

Summit Internet has been connecting Australian businesses for 26 years. We build, own and operate our own network, and we supply hosted PBX, SIP trunks, business nbn, Ethernet over fibre and business mobile plans from a single provider.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with BigTel.

How Summit Helps

  • A cloud phone system with every feature included

Our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording, and mobile and desktop apps. There are no feature tiers to work through.

  • SIP trunks for the phone system you already own

If your business runs an on-premises or 3CX phone system, Summit SIP trunks can connect it. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volume changes.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your staff live in Teams, we can connect it to the phone network through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licences, as Summit does not resell them.

  • Business nbn with a static IP

Business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, and speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. For sites that need more, we also offer Ethernet over fibre.

  • Voice that is prioritised on your connection

When your internet and phones are both with Summit, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS, so calls are not competing with downloads and video meetings.

  • 1300 and 1800 numbers

Keep your national presence with 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, plus fax to email and on-hold messaging.

  • 4G Backup for when the line drops

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back automatically once your main connection returns.

  • Mobiles on the same bill

Add business mobile SIM plans so internet, phones and mobiles sit on one bill from one provider.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Send us a recent BigTel bill or a list of your services: phone numbers, phone system, nbn or fibre services and mobiles. We will work out what needs to move.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the right mix of hosted PBX or SIP trunks, internet and mobiles, and help you time the switch around your contract end date.

  3. 3 Set up your new services

We connect your internet and build your phone system first. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped, ready to plug in.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port for your existing numbers. Keep your BigTel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers are live with Summit and everything is working, you can cancel the remaining BigTel services.

Phones and internet that work together

Putting voice and data with one carrier means QoS on your calls, one point of contact when something needs attention, and one bill.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of BigTel?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with BigTel in any way.
Why switch if my BigTel service is working?
If your current services do everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look at Summit when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, when a phone system is due for replacement, or when they want internet, phones and mobiles from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with BigTel. Check your contract for the end date and any early termination fees. Where possible, we will help you time the switch so your new services start as your current contract ends.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, can generally be ported to Summit. Keep your BigTel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
I have an on-premises or 3CX phone system. Do I need to replace it?
Not necessarily. If your phone system supports SIP, Summit SIP trunks may be able to connect it. If you would rather move to the cloud, our Hosted PBX includes every feature from $10 per user per month.
Can Summit connect Microsoft Teams to the phone network?
Yes, through Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. Summit does not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep the licensing arrangements you already have.
Do I have to move everything at once?
No. Some businesses move their phones first and their internet later, or the other way around. Voice traffic is only prioritised with QoS when the internet connection is also Summit's, so moving both gives the best result for calls.
Can I bring my mobiles across too?
Yes. Summit offers business mobile SIM plans, so mobiles can sit on the same bill as your internet and phones.
