Overview

AlphaNet Pty Ltd is an Australian IT and communications company, operating since 1995, with its postal address in Doncaster East, Victoria. Its voice services are sold under the FreeCall name, which offers single-channel VoIP plans, multi-channel SIP trunk plans, metro (DID) phone numbers, porting of existing numbers in, auto-attendant, voicemail to email and fax to email. AlphaNet also offers a browser-based cloud office phone system, hosted Asterisk servers, domain names and web hosting.

Businesses review their phone provider for ordinary reasons: the office is moving, the team has grown past a handful of lines, the phone system is due for a refresh, or they want internet and phones from one carrier that runs its own network. If any of those apply, it is worth comparing before you commit to anything new.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks for existing phone systems, Microsoft Teams Calling and inbound 1300 and 1800 numbers, alongside business nbn, Ethernet over fibre and fixed wireless in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with AlphaNet or FreeCall.

How Summit Helps

  • A Licensed Carrier With Its Own Network

Summit holds ACMA Carrier Licence #388 and has been connecting Australian businesses for 26 years. We build, own and operate our network, with Points of Presence in NEXTDC data centres and DDoS protection as standard.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Run

If your VoIP lines feed an Asterisk box or another IP PBX, SIP trunks connect it to Summit. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • A Cloud Phone System With Every Feature Included

Rather run no phone system at all? Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. We can preconfigure your handsets and ship them to you.

  • Moving Your Existing Numbers

We can port eligible existing numbers across to Summit, so customers keep calling the numbers they already know. FreeCall's own plan information says its Metro Numbers are not portable, so tell us which numbers you have and we will check which can move. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  • Fax to Email and Inbound Numbers

Still receiving faxes? Fax to email is available on Summit. If you want a national presence, add 1300 and 1800 numbers with on-hold messaging.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your staff live in Teams, Teams Calling connects Teams to the phone network through Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licensing arrangements, as Summit does not resell Microsoft licences.

  • Voice Prioritised on Summit Internet

VoIP depends on the internet connection under it. When that connection is also Summit's, such as business nbn with a static IP included, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS.

  • Internet, Phones and Mobiles on One Bill

Add 4G Backup, which fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network and fails back when your main link returns, and business mobile SIM plans, all on one account.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share a recent bill or a list of your FreeCall lines, channels, numbers and any phone system or Asterisk server you run.

  2. 2 Get a quote

We recommend SIP trunks, Hosted PBX or Teams Calling to fit how you work, plus internet if you want it on the same network.

  3. 3 Set up and test

We configure your trunks or cloud phone system, with handsets preconfigured and shipped if you need them.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We check which of your numbers are portable and lodge the port for those that are. Keep your AlphaNet service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported.

  5. 5 Cut over and cancel

Once calls are flowing on Summit, you confirm the cancellation of any remaining services with your old provider.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of AlphaNet?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with AlphaNet Pty Ltd or FreeCall.
Why switch if my AlphaNet service is working?
If your current services do everything you need, there may be no reason to switch. Businesses usually look around when they are moving office, adding staff, replacing a phone system, or wanting internet and phones from one carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with AlphaNet. Check your plan terms and any critical information summary for minimum terms or cancellation conditions. If you are on a fixed term, we can time the switch to its end.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
It depends on the number. Eligible numbers can be ported to Summit, but FreeCall's plan information says its Metro Numbers are not portable, so send us your list and we will confirm which can move. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my Asterisk server or existing PBX?
Often, yes. If your phone system supports SIP, SIP trunks can connect it to Summit. If you would rather retire the server, Hosted PBX replaces it with a cloud phone system.
Can I still send and receive faxes?
Yes. Summit offers fax to email, so incoming faxes arrive in your inbox.
Do you support Microsoft Teams calling?
Yes. Summit provides Teams Calling through Direct Routing. We do not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep your existing Microsoft arrangements.
