Overview

Alltel is a business telco based in Wheelers Hill, Victoria. It sells 1300, 1800 and 13 inbound numbers to Australian businesses, with calls routed to an office, a 24/7 live answering service or a voice to email product, and it has offered business VoIP and SIP trunk services since 2012.

An inbound number is usually only one part of how a business takes calls. Behind it sit the phone system that answers, the internet that carries the calls and the mobiles that pick up after hours. Businesses often review the whole arrangement when a contract ends, when they move office, or when they want one provider responsible for the numbers, the phones and the connection.

Summit Internet is a business-only carrier that has served Australian businesses for 26 years. We provide 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, a Hosted PBX cloud phone system, SIP trunks for existing phone systems and business nbn with a static IP, so your calls travel on a network we build, own and operate.

Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Alltel.

How Summit Helps

  • Your inbound numbers, ported across

Your existing 1300, 1800 and local numbers can be ported to Summit, so the numbers on your website, signage and vehicles stay the same. We manage the port request and keep you informed as it progresses.

  • A cloud phone system that answers the calls

Our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant and IVR, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email and call recording. Your inbound number can land directly on it.

  • SIP trunks for the system you already own

If your business uses SIP trunks to run an on-premises phone system, Summit SIP trunks connect it to our network. Start from 2 channels and scale up or down as call volumes change.

  • Answer from anywhere

Hosted PBX includes mobile and desktop apps, so staff can answer the business line from a laptop or phone. If you want desk handsets, we can preconfigure them and ship them ready to plug in.

  • Microsoft Teams Calling

If your team works in Teams, we can connect your numbers to Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. You keep your existing Microsoft licensing; Summit provides the calling.

  • Internet built for voice

When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised so calls stay clear when the office is busy. Choose business nbn with a static IP included, or Ethernet over fibre.

  • Keep taking calls if the line drops

4G Backup fails over automatically to Australia's biggest mobile network, with 98.8% population coverage, and fails back when your main service returns.

  • Fax to email and on-hold messaging

Summit also provides fax to email and on-hold messaging, so the extras around your business line can move with it.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your inbound and local numbers, how calls are routed today, your phone system and your internet connection. We map out what needs to move.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend the mix of inbound numbers, Hosted PBX or SIP trunks, internet and backup that fits how your business takes calls.

  3. 3 Set up the new service

We build your call flows, greetings, ring groups and queues on Summit before anything changes, and ship preconfigured handsets if you need them.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port request. Keep your Alltel service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Go live and tidy up

Once calls are arriving on Summit, you can arrange to close the old service in line with your existing agreement.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Alltel?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Alltel.
Why switch if my Alltel service is working?
If your current service does everything you need, there may be no reason to change. Businesses usually look at Summit when they want their inbound numbers, phone system and internet with one carrier, when a contract is ending, or when they are moving office.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, can generally be ported to Summit. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported.
How long does porting take?
The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days. We set up your new service before the port is lodged, so it is ready when your numbers arrive.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on your agreement with Alltel. Check your contract terms, and if there is a fixed term, we can time the switch to line up with its end date.
Do I need a new phone system?
Not necessarily. If you have an on-premises system you are happy with, SIP trunks connect it to Summit. If you would rather move to the cloud, Hosted PBX includes every feature from $10 per user per month.
Can calls to my 1300 number reach staff on mobiles and at home?
Yes. With Hosted PBX, ring groups, call queues and the mobile and desktop apps let staff answer business calls wherever they are working, and voicemail to email means missed calls arrive in your inbox.
Do I have to take Summit internet as well?
No. You can take inbound numbers and voice on their own. When your internet is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised on the connection.
Can I use Microsoft Teams for calls?
Yes. Summit connects your numbers to Microsoft Teams Calling via Direct Routing. We do not resell Microsoft licences, so you keep your existing licensing.
