Overview

Abacus Telecom is an Australian company that supplies telephone and data services and business telephone systems to small and medium organisations. Its published range includes business phone lines, VoIP and SIP trunks, 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers, mobile plans, wireless and business broadband, plus sales, service and maintenance of NEC and Panasonic phone systems, relocations and data and voice cabling.

Businesses review their phone provider for ordinary reasons: a contract is ending, the office is moving, an older on-site phone system is due for replacement, or they want internet and phones from one carrier that deals only with businesses.

Summit offers a cloud phone system, SIP trunks for phone systems that support them, Microsoft Teams Calling, inbound numbers and business nbn, all on a network we build, own and operate. Summit Internet is an independent carrier and is not affiliated with Abacus Telecom.

How Summit Helps

  • A Business-Only Carrier

Summit does not sell residential services. Every product, plan and support process is built around what businesses need, and we have been doing it for 26 years.

  • SIP Trunks for the Phone System You Already Own

If your existing on-site phone system supports SIP, you may not need to replace it. SIP trunks start from 2 channels and scale up or down as your call volumes change.

  • A Cloud Phone System When It Is Time to Replace Hardware

If your on-site system is due for replacement, our Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month with every feature included: auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. We can preconfigure your handsets and ship them to you.

  • Keep Your 1300 and 1800 Numbers

Move your 1300 and 1800 inbound numbers to Summit alongside your local numbers, with fax to email and on-hold messaging available too.

  • Teams Calling for Microsoft 365 Workplaces

Make and receive calls in Microsoft Teams through Direct Routing. Summit provides the calling; you keep your Microsoft licences with your current supplier.

  • Business nbn With a Static IP

Business nbn is available nationally with a static IP included, and speeds up to 2000/500 Mbps on full-fibre nbn. When your internet connection is also Summit's, voice traffic is prioritised with QoS.

  • Business Mobile on the Same Bill

Add business mobile SIM plans so your phones, internet and mobiles sit with one provider and arrive on one bill.

  • Backup That Fails Over Automatically

4G Backup switches to Australia's biggest mobile network (98.8% population coverage) if your primary link drops, and fails back automatically when it returns.

How It Works

  1. 1 Tell us what you have

Share your current phone numbers, phone lines, phone system make and model, internet services and contract end dates, and we will map out the equivalent Summit services.

  2. 2 Get a clear quote

We recommend SIP trunks for your existing system or a Hosted PBX, plus any internet or mobile you need, and put it in writing.

  3. 3 Set up and test

We configure your SIP trunks or Hosted PBX and any Summit internet while your existing services keep running.

  4. 4 Port your numbers

We lodge the port for your existing numbers. Keep your old service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.

  5. 5 Cancel the old services

Once your numbers have moved and everything is working, you cancel your previous services.

  • After working with another ISP for several months to deliver a critical internet service for a major international sporting event, we were ultimately advised that the required upgrade was unlikely to be completed prior to event week. This left us facing a significant risk to service delivery. After exhausting all other options (and a few sleepless nights) we came across Summit Internet. From the initial conversation, Allan immediately understood the severity of the situation and quickly engaged his technical delivery team. Michael “Radar” was on site within days to assess and finalise a solution. Despite challenging conditions, including large trees and other obstructions, he worked tirelessly to design and implement an alternative approach. Leveraging an adjacent building, a temporary NBN connection, and a wireless link into the comms room, the solution was delivered within 24 hours of the initial site visit. Not only was the outcome faster than expected, but it was also more cost effective and delivered higher speeds than originally promised by the previous ISP. Over the course of the event, the service handled terabytes of data and supported hundreds of concurrent users without a single speed or performance issue. I cannot thank Summit Internet, particularly Allan and Radar enough for their exceptional service, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering under pressure. Highly recommended.Read more

  • Summit internet recently set my small business up with a local land line number and a soft phone that runs off an app on my mobile - getting my personal phone number off the internet and being able to distinguish between business and personal calls is a game changer. Whole process took less than a week, and is super cost effective. Highly recommend.Read more

Frequently asked questions

Is Summit Internet part of Abacus Telecom?
No. Summit Internet is an independent Australian carrier holding ACMA Carrier Licence #388. We are not affiliated with Abacus Telecom.
Why switch if my Abacus Telecom service is working?
If your current services do everything your business needs, there may be no reason to switch. Many businesses look at alternatives when a contract is ending, when they are moving office, when their phone system is due for replacement, or when they want phones and internet from one business-only carrier.
Will I have to pay to break my contract?
That depends on the terms of your agreement with Abacus Telecom. Check your contract end date and any early termination fees, and we can time your switch to line up with the end of your contract.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Yes, existing numbers can be ported to Summit, including local numbers and 1300 and 1800 numbers. Keep your current service active until the port completes, because only active numbers can be ported. The ACMA says single local numbers generally port in 8 to 15 days, and multi-number ports can take up to 30 days.
Can I keep my NEC or Panasonic phone system?
If your system supports SIP, it can usually connect to Summit SIP trunks. Tell us the make and model when you ask for a quote and we will confirm what is needed. If it cannot, or it is due for replacement, our Hosted PBX is the alternative.
What does a cloud phone system include?
Summit's Hosted PBX starts from $10 per user per month and includes auto attendant, ring groups, call queues, voicemail to email, call recording and mobile and desktop apps. Handsets can be preconfigured and shipped to you.
Do you sell residential services?
No. Summit is business-only and does not sell residential services.
